We know — $10–$20 per game, buy once, own it forever. Sounds great, right?
But here’s the catch: that model just isn’t sustainable. And committing to an unsustainable model is the worst thing we could do — to our customers and to ourselves. We want to keep building. And the fun stops if we can’t.
We’ve done our homework. Every company that tried the à la carte approach in this space either folded or pivoted. At our current scale, charging $10–$20 per game simply doesn’t allow us to invest meaningfully in the kind of games we want to create.
The truth is, the two dominant models in gaming — mobile and console — both require massive scale to work. Mobile hit that scale, but the “smart” move there is to chase whales with freemium tricks, ads, and pay-to-win mechanics. That’s not us. Console also reached scale — AAA studios spend tens of millions developing games and sell them for $60–$100, often with DLC on top. That’s not us either.
Nex Playground was built for families — young kids, siblings, parents, even grandparents who’d rather move than mash buttons. No ads. No nags. Just safe, private, secure, active play.
We’re shipping new games and updates every other week. And we believe a subscription is the fairest, most sustainable way to keep it going. It lets us keep building and improving — and surprise and delight our customers — without resorting to dark patterns or “gacha” mechanics.

And honestly, we’re not big fans of the transactional nature of à la carte purchases. Our vision is to build a rich library of content that serves the whole family — and keep it truly affordable. If everyone contributes a little, we unlock a growing annual content budget that allows us to create something far better together. It’s a bit like cooking stone soup: everyone brings something to the pot, and we all share a meal to remember. Subscription is the foundational ingredient that makes that possible.
We know subscriptions aren’t for everyone — and that’s okay. We’re here to serve the families who are ready to join us on this journey first, and we’ll keep earning the trust of others along the way.
And if — knock on wood — Nex ever had to shut down, here’s my promise: if it’s up to me, we’ll unlock every original game permanently, and respectfully ask our IP partners to do the same. You have my word.
We’re in this to build something that gives more than it takes. Subscription is how we get there — together.
